For
almost 50 years, Sendai Ikuei Gakuen has been committed
to cultural exchange in order to strengthen its goal of
globalized education. This first started in 1963 when Sendai
Ikuei sent a student to Oregon. Now half a century later,
on the 105th anniversary of Sendai Ikuei's founding, we
are proud to open the I-Lion Hawaii School.
The I-Lion Hawaii School (ILHA) is
located in the Hawaiian capital of Honolulu, and is aimed
towards giving Sendai Ikuei Gakuen students a chance to
study overseas. This unique and immersive learning environment
offers students an opportunity to learn firsthand what they
otherwise wouldn't be able to in Japan.
Hawaii itself offers a unique fusion
of cultures and traditions for students to explore. While
its history is deeply rooted in Polynesia, it also incorporates
mainland American culture as well as the respective cultures
of immigrants and visitors from all over the world. For
Japan in particular it has held great significance as the
gateway to the West since the beginning of the Meiji period.

While in this multicultural society
students learn valuable analysis and critical thinking skills,
which in turn prepare them for success in our increasingly
interconnected world.
