Spending the day surrounded by
natures beauty and splendor

Layla Oshiro
1st Year Gaikokugo Course

The first thing you notice when you arraive in Honolulu is the beautiful scent of flowers. In the morning we studied English in the classroom, with beach cleanup and canoe lessons at Waikiki in the afternoon. Being surrounded by all of this beautiful nature, I feel that I've really had a great opportunity in coming here.

Input and Output
The result is better English!

Kyohei Honda
1st Year Tokushin Course

In English class I really learned the importance of "Input" and "Output" . In other words, I got "Input" learning new vocabulary in class every morning, and got to "Output" in the afternoon whenever I was out in Honolulu. In just a short amount of time, my English has really improved !

I never would have thought
I would learn Japanese culture in Hawaii.

Mina Hoshi
2nd Year Eishin Course

I had a great experience with my home stay in Hawaii. My host mother was very into organic food and produce, and would focus on the smallest details in all of her cooking. I realized that this was very similar to the Japanese way of cooking, and experienced one of many moments where I unexpectedly encountered my own culture in America.

Hawaii-Bridging
American and Japanese relations .

Rintaro Sugawara
1st Year Tokushin Course

I'll never forget going to the Arizona Memorial where Pearl Harbor took place. As a Japanese person I felt embarrassed just by being there. While looking at the memorial, an older lady came up to me and asked where I was from. When I told her that I was from Japan she gave me a hug and thanked me for being there. It was a very emotional experience.

Within the delicate movements of
hula lies profound enchantment .

Chiaki Masumizu
1st Year Gaikokugo Course

I think it was great learning hula in Hawaii. Just watching it was lots of fun! But in actually doing it, I got to really understand the dance's hidden depth. Moving your hand and body in synch; it reminded me of the ocean, the beach, and the stars. I understood why so many people fall in love with this dance. I had a wonderful time!
